About
I teach classes that combine world music, popular music, and music history perspectives. For the fall semester, my classes include "Music and Religious Ecstasy" and "Music and Film."
Current projects include an expansion and revision of an ethnography of the Brazilian independent music industry and business's role in marketing and representing Brazilian music as a brand to international markets. I am preparing an article on the reception of bossa nova among african american communities in the 1960s. I am also interested in the Brazilian composer, Ernesto Nazareth, and his relationship to music practices in movie theaters in early 20th century Rio de Janeiro.
